Spaghetti with tuna sauce

Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for Spaghetti with Tuna Sauce. It’s quick to make and perfect for a weeknight dinner!


Spaghetti with Tuna Sauce

Ingredients (Serves 4):

  • 12 oz (340g) spaghetti
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 can (5 oz or 140g) tuna in olive oil, drained
  • 1 can (14 oz or 400g) crushed tomatoes or tomato puree
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) pasta water (reserved)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for serving)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the spaghetti:
    • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1/4 cup of pasta water, then drain the spaghetti and set aside.
  2. Prepare the sauce:
    • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion, and sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened and fragrant.
    • Add the drained tuna to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook for 2-3 minutes to let the flavors meld.
    • Stir in the crushed tomatoes, red pepper flakes (if using), oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer the sauce for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Combine the pasta and sauce:
    • Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet with the tuna sauce. Toss everything together, adding a splash of the reserved pasta water to help the sauce coat the pasta evenly.
    • Cook for another 1-2 minutes to let the pasta absorb the flavors.
  4. Serve:
    • Divide the spaghetti among plates. Garnish with fresh parsley and grated Parmesan cheese if desired. Serve immediately.
