Smothered Pork Chops Recipe
Ingredients:
- 4 bone-in pork chops (about 1-inch thick)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Season the Pork Chops:
- Pat the pork chops dry with paper towels.
- Season them on both sides with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika.
- Sear the Pork Chops:
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the pork chops and sear for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Transfer the pork chops to a plate and set aside.
- Prepare the Gravy:
- In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add the butter.
- Add the sliced onions and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.
- Add the garlic and mushrooms (if using) and cook for another 2 minutes until fragrant.
- Sprinkle the flour over the onions and mushrooms and stir to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
- Make the Sauce:
- Gradually whisk in the chicken broth until the mixture is smooth and begins to thicken.
- Stir in the heavy cream and Worcestershire sauce.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring occasionally.
- Cook the Pork Chops in the Sauce:
- Return the pork chops to the skillet, nestling them into the sauce.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15-20 minutes until the pork chops are cooked through and tender.
- Serve:
- Garnish with chopped parsley.
- Serve the smothered pork chops with mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite side dish.
Enjoy your delicious and comforting smothered pork chops!
